I agree with Dog: her arse should be in future Bonds. Or maybe vice versa.

On a more serious note, Melanie Lynskey. She's a phenomenal actress. Watch her in anything, even Two and a Half Men, and try and predict what she's going to do next. Her two episodes of The Shield were standouts.

Rebecca Hall is pretty, but I'm not sure her acting style would fit in a Bond movie well. She doesn't have much of a mysterious or exotic allure, unlike Cotillard or Van Houten, for instance.

Personally I think she has an incredible acting range - dare I say too much to be wasted on a mere standard Bond girl role (but of course with Sam Mendes and on board hopefully we might get more than the generic "needs to be equal in every way" stuff which has plagued the last few). Actually - come to think of it - wasn't there a rumour about Sam Mendes and Rebecca Hall around the time he split from Kate Winslet? Hmmm...

Keira can act. Haven't you seen Atonement or The Edge of Love? Those are probably her best performances. Then The Duchess, Never Let Me Go and Love Actually. Never mind the POTC films, though she does light up the screen in them. :D

Actually - I was just being facetious. I know Keira can act and those are perfect examples - it's just I hear so many people say she can't (clearly there is also a jealousy thing going off with many females I know too). Ignoring her blockbuster efforts (eg. Pirates, King Arthur etc) - I think she's a fine actress in period dramas or indie films. But I still have to say that Rebecca Hall is the better actress out of the two.

They might have been able to get Cottilard before she won the Oscar. Now she pretty much has her pick of any role - as she is one of the few "mature" female actresses in Hollywood today.

Knightley is not a great actress. She adequate at best, and her range is very limited.

Of course until Black Swan I felt the same about Natalie Portman. Though it's my theory that even mediocre actors are capable of one terrific performance. I'm still not convinced that wasn't simply Portman's.

Portman and Knightley are both guilty of "phoning it in" as actresses. I mean - just look at what Portman has done since Black swan - Thor, No String Attached, Your Highness. Clearly she is trying to improve her range (or rather bank balance) there! This is why I love Rebecca Hall in comparison.

Cottilard has said she will only do one movie a year since having a child. I'm guessing that movie will be the new Batman - so best stop the speculating here. She is a good actress (although not a fan of her in Inception).
