| How about Brad Bird directing a Shane Black script?
I saw IRON MAN 3 yesterday, and while the overall story was largely ignored, it had some quality dialogue throughout, and the characters were actual characters rather than people who did things because the plot demanded it. |

| Good dialogue in a Star Trek film? Jesus, it kinda saddens me to realize there hasn't been any of that for a long long time now. |

| Honestly, the dialogue that we have seen from the film so far is about what I'd expect from the likes of Chris Pine and half the cast. I doubt they'd be able to handle anything more sophisticated. Pine's Kirk is hardly the most intelligent of characters. It wouldn't surprise me if Starfleet promote all of their captains based on how big a dickhead they can be, and whilst Shatner's Kirk could - and would - be an asshole when he wanted to be, he at least had the qualities of an officer. Pine is to Kirk what Dane Cook is to stand-up comedy.
I suppose Pine is representative of everything that is wrong with Abrams' STAR TREK: who wants authenticity when you can have explosions!? |

| It's a shame too because Pine has the right qualities to make a great Kirk, but his character is written like a flailing idiot. |

| ShatnerKirk had swagger. But he was a trained, experienced officer who always knew what he was doing.
PineKirk is a dickhead. He took command of the Enterprise by pissing off QuintoSpock and driving him into a homicidal rage, humiliating the commanding officer in front of the entire bridge crew. Then Spock came back in like nothing had happened and didn't think to challenge Kirk's "command". Then Scotty beamed them into the middle of the Completely Undefined Whatever Section of the Narada, and they shot off some laser pistols. And then Kirk ordered the Enterprise's 30 warp cores ejected to blow up a black hole that was safe enough for the Narada to be parked in the middle of. And then Starfleet was all like, "we're gonna make you captain n stuff." And Kirk was going to leave at the end without QuintoSpock, but QuintoSpock snuck onto the bridge and asked for his old job back. |

| Beeb have a selection of reviews
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-22364608
fortunately doesn't contain the gushing one from the Sun which claims "being the second best Trek film is no easy accolade" and is filled with the usual stupid puns you'd expect from the paper. |

| Chris Pine and Cumbers on Graham Norton's show Friday, Quinto and Saldana on Ross' show Saturday. I guess that leaves Bruce Greenwood sat looking quite uncomfortable with Simon Pegg on Alan Carr's Chatty Man or God help them, Loose Women.
Quinto waxing lyrical about Rodenberry, Saldana sort of adding to it (she sounds out of it, granted). But then they were on the same show as Jeremy Kyle. Quinto at least seems to know his Trek schtick. |

| Title tracks for INTO DARKNESS, just as stupid as the last soundtrack.
1. Logos/Pranking The Natives (3:01) 2. Spock Drops, Kirk Jumps (1:43) 3. Sub Prime Directive* (2:23) 4. London Calling (2:09) 5. Meld-merized (2:40) 6. The Kronos Wartet (5:25) 7. Brigadoom (3:41) 8. Ship To Ship (2:50) 9. Earthbound And Down (2:37) 10. Warp Core Values (2:56) 11. Buying The Space Farm (3:17) 12. The San Fran Hustle (5:00) 13. Kirk Enterprises* (3:00) 14. Star Trek Main Theme* (3:25)
That's a very short soundtrack. Like the last film, I won't be getting this one. |

| Some of it's on YouTube. It isn't good.
The main theme is particularly terrible. |

| Read the plot on wiki. I dunno, this one sounds like it may be watchable at least. It sounds better than the last one. |

| Listening to some of the tracks. I was hoping for more of the theme by Courage at the very least as the idea in the first film was to build up to that ala Casino Royale and then the next one would bring in the Alexander theme more often. Instead it looks like Giacchino pretty much abandoned it in favor of reusing that generic title theme from the last movie.
I honestly do not get this composer. His score for UP was actually pretty damn good, but everything else he has made for live action has been generic cookie cutter shit. What the hell is up with this guy? |

- Spoiler:
From what I've read, I at least like the idea of taking Khan at a whole new angle with Section 31 being involved and having Kirk be the guy that becomes obsessed with getting revenge. It's got the potential to be a very good Trek story, but the ending with that magic blood sounds stupid as shit and I'm not confident in the current guard pulling it off.

| I'm not expecting anything more than possibly watchable fluff. Like perhaps a DIE ANOTHER DAY.
Magic blood. Of course solar time warp is whacked, but in STD it sounds like they finished writing the first draft and said, "Oh shit, he's dead. Here's an idea."
But TOS has some daft episode endings too. |

But TOS has some daft episode endings too. Doesn't mean the films should look to those endings as inspiration. We'll see, I guess. Too bad Khan wasn't wise enough to give his blood to his wife. |

Absolutely. But I'm not expecting much from this. I'm just gonna see what happens. Maybe it'll be watchable. Dumb, but watchable. And maybe not quite as utterly incoherent as the last one. I'm not taking it seriously as Star Trek. I'm hoping for a fun, live-action Saturday morning cartoon. |

| It might as well be. The last film's script suffered largely because of the writers strike, I think they were using different drafts, that's why a lot of it doesn't make sense as there were too many holes and contradictions. The most telling was the bit where Kirk refers to Spock Prime going back in time on purpose to change history, when only five minutes ago we were told a whole different situation. |

| Well, that was great fun. Nothing like watching Enterprise come majestically out of the water. Or the clouds. Definitely needed more Bendydick though. He kicks serious are, and his voice is pure sex. How Karl Urban and Simon Pegg keep their faces straight I don't know.
Still with the annoying lens flare though. And I wish they wouldn't roll Leonard Nimoy out when the plot dips.
Liked the soundtrack as well. The pre- title sequence was good fun, especially in 3D. And Kirk in bed with twins gets a laugh.
All in all, great fun.
Although me and 'Imself are in disagreement about whether this is an odd number film or even. He says even; I say odd. |
