Half in the Bag episode is up: http://redlettermedia.com/half-in-the-bag-star-trek-into-darkness/
Funny that Jay isn't that much of a Trek guy, but I agree 100% with everything he brought up. I am totally fine with the new Trek films being more action/adventure oriented, I just wish the scripts were better written stories instead of a bunch of ideas they threw in and tried playing connect the dots. That's how it felt for me, it's so flimsy that the charm of the cast is not enough to elevate it for me especially when it tries to take itself seriously with the token "is it moral?" stuff.`
As much as I enjoyed it as popcorn fluff when I saw it, the more I think about it the more apparent the problems crop up. I just read on the Trek website that Orci and Kurtzman are willing to stand down if someone comes up with a better idea of a story. I fucking hope somebody does, because it's time for them to move on. They had two chances, I'd rather let someone else get a shot especially if they have their work more thought out.

I felt about INTO DARKNESS what I felt about the '09 TREK: stupid as all get-out, but energetic enough to be mildly watchable.

Wouldn't be surprised if that somehow worked into a future Trek film. Bet Pine could nail the face pretty much and it's Spock who goes back in time not McCoy. And it's Carol...or maybe it's Khan.

FWIW, although the film may be bollox, I'm really liking Giacchino's score. Much more than the first one.
I'd go as far as to put in my top 5 TREK scores.

It's an improvement over his last TREK score, I'll give it that.

Likely during the nightclub scene where Scotty is having whiskey.

I always thought of Orci and Kurtzman as Trek fans who were just bad screen writers. The fact that they equate Khan to Trek like The Joker to Batman is enough to tell me they aren't really Trek fans and have no business writing these films on any level. Khan was just another villain, a great iconic villain but he was never this great nemesis that people like to make him out to be. He was a one off villain, then made a comeback and died. The closest Trek has anything to a nemesis is Dukat in DS9, and that's about it.

Or Q. Not so much a nemesis, but an antagonist. Much more interesting than a villain.

So they named it after just another ship that got blow'd up. M'kay. But it has a Section 31 "facility"? Doesn't that go against the whole idea of Section 31? They're supposed to be untraceable.
And they're building a massive killer spaceship at a secret base near Jupiter?
-How do you hide near Jupiter? How is that remote? -Who built this massive killer spacehip? -Who crews it? -Do these writers GET Section 31? The whole idea is that they are UNDER THE FUCKING RADAR.
And the ship is ugly and looks like Legos.

And Admiral Marcus flat out tells Kirk about Section 31 so casually, I did a double take on that. When I first heard they were involved in the flick, I assume Kirk would find out via Khan in the brig, not by the admiral himself.

Still this Giacchino has managed in two movie what David Arnold has not managed in 5 soundtracks, give the fanchise a new leadtune that is different from the previous ST movies/series and still feels very strong. I must admit liking these new ost's by Giacchino. I can only hope that EON sees sense and gives this guy a few 007 movies to develop some new tunes for 007.

I'll gladly take Arnold back instead. His scores aren't much, but I thought QOS was a nice improvement from what came before. If he could keep that up or do better I'd welcome him.
