| Stephen King - 11/22/63
I have always liked mr. Kings writings and most of the time buy his new books blind, With the exception of the Gunslinger series, which have failed to woo me.
Anthony Horowitz - House of Silk (new Holmes novel)
I simply like Sherlock Holmes, any new adventure is welcome.
Havank Ross - Schaduw contra de Schorpioen (the Shadow vs The Scorpion), not the Us Shadow but the detective as written by a Dutch Writer Havank, this is the 3rd continuation novel by the 2nd author to continue the works of........
I have most of the Dutch crimenovels by Havank. The writer Tomas Ross is one of the better Dutch crime writers and he has taken up the pen of the once often brilliant writer Havank. Havank did translate quite a few Saintnovels as written by the immoratl Leslie Charteris. This is one of those must buys. Ross does write a better thriller than Havank perhaps ever did but the virtuosity in dialogue is perhaps best discribed as the silly bantering in films of the thirties and forties. Perhaps not everybody's cup of tea. But I can quite enjoy six pages of silly observations on the subject of a large nose. |

Great novel. Have read it twice. One day I hope the movie eventually gets made (somebody needs to pass this book on to David Fincher). I think a few years ago Johnny Depp probably would have been the only choice to play Dr. Kreizler, but I think he's probably a bit overexposed on those sorts of roles now. - Quote :

An enjoyable book; as a "reboot" I thought it worked well. - Quote :

An excellent book, but what will the movie concentrate upon? You could almost make two entirely different movies from this book: the first film would be about the cereal killer, Dr. H.H. Holmes, and the second film about the struggles and accomplishments to get the Chicago World's Fair up and running in 1893. |

I'm okay with owning it as a Bond fan, but I really kinda hate it. It's terribly dull. - Gravity's Silhouette wrote:

I think the film, like the book, means to juxtapose both of them. |

I'm okay with owning it as a Bond fan, but I really kinda hate it. It's terribly dull. I gave away my copy of CARTE BLANCHE a long time ago. It adds nothing whatsoever to the world of Bond - nothing worthwhile, anyway, and all those odd, redundant references to everything from Harry Potter to Depeche Mode are just naff and embarrassing. The book does, however, achieve the remarkable feat of making DEVIL MAY CARE seem pretty decent after all. |

I think the film, like the book, means to juxtapose both of them. Maybe it was just me, but the problem I had with the book, and it was the only problem, was that HH Holmes' cereal killing was only tangentially related to the Chicago World's Fair. It seemed like the only link between the two was that Holmes was advertising rooms to rent in connection with the staging of the World's Fair. I actually found the story about the World's Fair, and all the problems with creating it, a bit more interesting than the story of Holmes himself, as there was more known about the Fair than about Holmes. Currently I'm reading POMPEII by Robert Harris: |
