| Saw this Ripper thing in Waterstone's yesterday but didn't take a close look. I suppose it's non-fictional, or one of these fictional works like "The Last Dickens" or "Shadow of Reichenbach Falls". |

| Non-Fictional. Although it wouldn't be the first time I got caught out.
Well, then again, it depends on your idea of fiction ;) Let's just say I think - and hope - it's classed as non-fiction.
I dislike Ripper fiction. |

I dislike Ripper fiction. I don't think I've read Ripper fiction. I've seen it like Study in Terror but no, never read. Even as non-fiction a biography sounds interesting. Probably better than Patricia Cornwell. People say she's beyond obsessed with Ripper. |

She knows bugger all about Jack the Ripper, the dozy bint. Her book is utter rubbish. Easily one of the worst ones out there. And that's saying something. I dislike too much artistic licence with historical events and real people. It can be done well. But then again, it can also be right tosh. |

| There's around 2,000 suspects and counting. Around 500 of them could be plausible.
It's just a game to play, at the end of the day.
Personally, I back James Kenneth Stephen. |

| Went to three different used book stores today. Here's what I got: ICEFIRE by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens I've read four of their books, but ICEFIRE was always the best (but Freefall and Quiksilver were good, solid runner-ups). Other books include: SPYCATCHER by Matthew Dunn Got this one for a steal. Only 3.99$, and in hardback. Not a scratch on it. Like new. Love the raised lettering on the cover. Now hopefully the story will be just as good. THE WIDOW OF THE SOUTH by Robert Hicks CHASING EDEN by S.L.Linnea THE DESCENT by Jeff Long |

I've read Name of the Rose & Foucoult Pendulum as well, they are both very good books. But like this one you need a long breath to survive the first part of the book. I was with this new one a bit taken aback by the unveiled anti-jewishness, actually anti-everything, but very negative when it comes to Jewish people in a nasty general style. Gladly I did check before I started on this book, I know the theme is anti-semitism and the tale is told through the eyes of somebody that could be called a biggot (and you would be nice calling him that) and at the same time is gives a taste of the 19th centuriy. Mr. Eco is very well versed in history and when he gives description of the daily life he does take you away to that time and that world. So far I find mr. Eco a very intelligent and challenging writer. |
