| TAS: "The Time Trap"Still only like one episode of this show. But I'm gonna see "The Slaver Weapon" now, which I've actually seen before. It'll be cool to see the Kzinti. |

| I actually like HOW SHARPER THAN A SERPENT'S TOOTH, despite disliking the ancient aliens well Trek loves going back to -- however MAGICKS OF MEGAS-TU is definitely non-canon in my books its so retarded. Its stardate dates it to before WHERE NO MAN... instead of post TURNABOUT like the rest of the episodes, so I declare the whole thing bullshit.
TIME TRAP -- the episode so good they ripped it off on Voyager THREE TIMES. |

| The only reason they got to be in "Slaver Weapon" was because Niven wrote them. While I think they add an interesting detail to early Earth history -- that we invented warp drive and immediately stumbled on this aggressive cat species we had to defeat -- ultimately I don't think the details from Niven's Known Universe mix well with Roddenberry's Star Trek universe and I find it really weird for Niven to do so.
It would be like if when Whedon wrote THE AVENGERS he brought in characters and situations from BUFFY. |

| In terms of canon, I don't see any Kzinti wars in the 21st century. No way. I think for dramatic purposes the Earth-Romulan War should be humanity's first interstellar war. |

| The Kzinti War never makes sense. If Earth barely managed the Romulan War quite how it managed one so soon after First Contact is something else. I think the Kzinti were going to feature in ENT's Fifth Season had it happened. |

| That was the plan.
Ultimately it's something that doesn't fit too well into the Trek canon because its being shoehorned in from Known Space canon.
I remember hearing once that "The Slaver Weapon" and its Nivenization of Trek was one of the primary reasons Roddenberry became uncomfortable with the Animated Series and had it de-canonized. This was, after all, aroudn the time he was becoming more and more overbearingly controlling of Trek -- butting into TMP any chance he could, trying to turn back on the Franz Joeseph materials he had earlier endorsed, expressing displeasure at the Harve Bennett films, nearly driving TNG Season 1 into the ground, etc. |

| TAS: "The Jihad"
Another episode where I don't know quite to think.
I do a TOS run every other spring (2007, 2009, 2011, and I'll do one next year). Next year I'll do a TOS/TAS run and give this show another shot. Maybe I'll be more receptive to it after a TOS run.
TOS DS9 TNG ENT TAS VOY
I think that's how I'd do it. I'm just not a fan of animation. |

It's damn annoying. Is this happening to other threads? TAS: "Bem"What the hell was that? As for the thread pruning, maybe we can start a new thread every x number of pages. Anyone know how many pages there were when it did this? |

As for the thread pruning, maybe we can start a new thread every x number of pages. Anyone know how many pages there were when it did this? It happens to the 'last movie watched' thread but nothing else really lasts that many pages. Maybe the Dark Knight thread might soon. Think it happened on 69/70 pages. Same with the movie threads, the last Trek thread (as it now is) is below this one. EDIT- says 67 pages so I'd say that region for sure is Termination Time. |

TAS: "The Practical Joker"
That was irritating. And what the fuck's with everyone saying "What the devil..."
Hey, a holodeck. |

An interesting idea in there. McCoy in gold?
I looked it up and they had one of the producers as a voice actor. No wonder he sucked. |

| TAS: "How Sharper Than a Serpent's Tooth"I'm with Sykes, I actually enjoyed this one despite it using the ancient gods were aliens trope. I have one more episode to go before I have seen all of Star Trek. |

| TAS: "The Counter-Clock Incident"I've seen every episode of Star Trek. Damn. This last one was alright. "The Deadly Years" meets "The Alternative Factor". A bit of a VOYAGER episode in that it's all about some crazy SF concept with not much human or character interest. That's been a problem for me with TAS. They take advantage of the fact that it's animated to do stuff they couldn't do on the show, but there's not much character. Fontana got it right on "Yesteryear". Cool to finally see Robert April. Nichols makes his wife sound like she smokes five packs a day. Running down the shows, favorites and least... TOS -Favorite: "The Cage" -Least: "The Alternative Factor" TAS -Favorite: "Yesteryear" -Least: "The Magicks of Megas-Tu" TNG -Favorite: "Yesterday's Enterprise" (Tough call, but it's my personal fave. TNG's CASABLANCA) -Least: "s***s of Grey" DS9 -Favorite: "The Visitor" (An almost impossible job to pick a fave, but I'll just say the one-two punch of "Warrior" and this. Those time-travel ones...) -Least: "Move Along Home" VOY -Favorite: "The Year of Hell" (Probably my favorite.) -Least: "Threshold" (This is as impossible as picking a favorite from DS9!) ENT -Favorite: "Observer Effect" (Those arcs blend together, and I really think this was a terrific episode) -Least: "These Are the Voyages..." |

| Sound choices. For TOS it's tricky having a favourite episode, for some reason I tend to lean towards Where No Man Has Gone Before but somewhere around Balance of Terror/Enemy Within/Space Seed.
It used to be Enterprise Incident, quite firmly. |
