There's a plot? I went through the film several months ago trying to figure out if there was a plot. There isn't one. An aimless series of events? Yes. A plot? No.
Both have Romulans... sorta. NEMESHIT has the Batboys, I mean Remans. And Shitzon. STINO (my name for the 2009 movie) has Romulans, but they're not really Romulans. They're just random bald guys with tattoos on their heads. Both want to blow up Earth. For some reason apparently. Both have it in for a main character. Nero wants to make Spock suffer because Spock gave everything to save Nero's homeworld. Makes perfect sense. Shitzon was a clone, and that naturally made him want to blow up Earth. For some reason apparently.
NEMESHIT's plot is ripped off from WRATH OF KHAN.

Yeah, I sat down to watch the 2009 film a while ago. It took me considerably longer than I would care to admit before I realised I was actually watching MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 3.
I think JJ Abrams might be the only person in Hollywood who can't even write a MacGuffin properly. As a rule, a MacGuffin is really only a MacGuffin (in the purest sense of the word) if it can be replaced with a pint of Guinness without affecting anything in the story. The briefcase in RONIN is a MacGuffin, because it doesn't matter what is inside (Jonathan Pryce's character is the only person who needs to know what it is). It can be a pint of Guinness, and nothing about the film changes. But the "Rabbit's Foot" in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 3 fails the Guinness test because the plot hinges on it actually being something for all that the film likes to pretend that its precise nature is unimportant. If Tom Cruise opened up the "Rabbit's Foot" at the end of the film and discovered it to be pint of Guinness, the entire plot would crumble. And by "entire plot", I mean the thread that loosely ties everything in the film together.

Is it just my imagination or in a couple of the frames, once again, the sets look like the inside of the enemy ship in Star Trek Nemesis and Star Trek (2009)?
So in Star Trek Nemesis we had a Reman/Romulan hybrid that was pissed off at Picard.
In Star Trek (2009) we had a Romulan that was pissed off at Spock.
Now in Star Trek Into Darkness we have a Humanoid who is pissed off at Kirk.
Do you see the similarities there?
Do you see what I am getting at?
The Star Trek feature film writers can't come up with an ioda of an original story.
They keep recycling the same premise over and over!!

I thought it looked a little like the Narada as well. The Narada being Nero's ship in STINO. Though I also call it the Giant Space Razor Dildo of Doom.
I thought the Superbowl trailer looked kinda "meh", like the other trailers.
I was looking for any new info on this film recently and stumbled again on the very poorly written official synopsis:
In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness.
When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis . With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.
I ask again, how does one detonate what a fleet stands for? Starfleet is about exploration primarily. So I guess it "stands" for exploration. So the villain in STINO 2 detonates exploration?
"epic chess game of life and death"

You are being quite too generous TWT.
More like a 4 year old.
Yes! How does one detonate a fleet?
How many runabouts and cruisers and destroyers and dreadnought and star-ships, etc etc (see also: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Federation_starship_classes) are in the Federation Starfleet?
Where they all docked at the Starbase that orbits Earth?
Is that how they were detonated?
Not one of them were out in space exploring and patrolling any of the Quadrants (see also: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/index.php?search=quadrant)
If that was the case, that is a lot of space left unguarded.

Detonating a fleet I could see, if someone had Q-like powers or something, or Gary Mitchell from "Where No Man Has Gone Before". But how does one detonate something immaterial such as what a fleet stands for? It makes no sense.

James T Kirk did mention him before in a rather subtle way..............

Turns out it's not quite the case. The actual article mentions Khan only being an unconfirmed rumor, nothing official. Instead the character is described as being a Starfleet officer turned terrorist.

So, looks like this isn't a theatrical trailer but a second teaser, meaning you're not gonna learn anything about the new flick other than be told again it's a tentpole summer film.
Still, it does hint at the idea of Kirk being promoted to Captain as an awful idea. That's actually something I wanted, but will it be done right? *looks at Orci and Kurtzman* Fuck.

International Footage Screening Reveals Star Trek Into Darkness Spoilers Source: Juado , TrekMovie March 7, 2013
With just over two months to go before the release of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness, Brazilian website Juado (via TrekMovie.com) is reporting on nearly 40 minutes of footage just screened for the press. While that footage overlaps with the IMAX footage from late last year, quite a lot of new footage was also shown.
Please be aware that spoilers for the sequel follow.
While Benedict Cumberbatch's character's motivations remain a mystery, the biggest reveal included in the new footage seems to be the identity of Peter Weller's character. The site reports that Weller will be playing "Admiral Marcus" who, one assumes, is the father of Alice Eve's Carol Marcus. In fact, an "Alex Marcus" was recently teased in the pages of the "Countdown to Darkness" comic book prequel. If both Marcuses are indeed one and the same, that means that Weller's character was the former first officer on a different U.S.S. Enterprise, serving under Captain Robert April.
The other major plot detail revealed is that, towards the beginning of the film, Chris Pine's Kirk will be demoted for violating the Prime Directive on Nibiru and accidentally revealing the Enterprise to the natives. Bruce Greenwood's Captain Christopher Pike will be put in charge of the Enterprise with Kirk serving as first officer and Zachary Quinto's Spock getting transferred to another vessel.
The film, set for release on IMAX screens on May 15 and in regular theaters May 17, 2013, also stars John Cho, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban and Anton Yelchin.

Holy shit. Another prequel/lead-in comic book. Maybe it's just me but my main reaction was: Pike's walking(!).
The Marcus side of things is something else.

If it were done right, they'd demote him at the start of the movie and he'd have to earn his way back up.

The fact that he does get demoted seems promising. I like the idea that now Kirk truly needs to earn his command and prove his worth, as opposed to the last film where all he did was do what Prime Spock told him to do. They should have just promoted him to an officer at the end instead, and then use this movie to have him earn the chair. Still, the idea of earning back the captain's stripes after a demotion sounds appealing. Starfleet's poster boy F***S up and needs to show he's got it.
Though I suspect this is what Trev meant about the writers stealing ideas from other movies with the hero rising after a huge blow (TDKR, SKYFALL).

Yeah, thought I posted the article here. Anyway, he gets demoted for fucking up a mission by violating the prime directive, where on an alien world a bunch of natives see the Enterprise and such. That's why the trailer has Pike chewing him out for being a pain in the ass.

Looking at the teaser, I keep expecting the credits to read "Chris Pine is Han Solo as James Kirk"

So he gets demoted. Maybe he'll do absolutely nothing of any value amidst an incoherent story and get promoted to captain at the end as an afterthought. That hasn't happened before.

He has such an amazing team of writers in Orci, Kurtzman, and Lindelof. These guys really need to take over writing for MAD MEN. They're so talented, coming up with scripts that make perfect sense and have characters that aren't one-note, cheap caricatures.

Glad Kirk said: "Punch It".
For a minute there I had a premonition that he was going to say: "Engage" or "Make It So".
