When is that? I want to check that out some time for a larf. When Tracy gets shot. There are other examples like the music during the Gumbold scene being dialed down so low that there's less tension. The gunbarell when Bond shoots was replaced with new foley. It's the same bullshit that happened with VERTIGO, but thankfully the original mix is in good shape. |

Ditto. These tips are helpful. Something to look out for when viewing any of these films for the 50th to 100th time or somewhere inbetween . I stop counting at 10 with each film, but I'm miles past 10 for all 23 films. I've seen GF and DAF so many times, if a shrink knew the exact count, he might have me committed for being "mental," as Sean suggests Tania might be for obsessing over his photo in FRWL. Love that scene, especially the way Sean articulates the word "mental"...smooth as silk, plus the look on his face is priceless. What an actor. A master of understatement. |

| Watched the deleted scenes from CR. Interesting stuff, but none of it should have been kept anyway. The PTS in particular could have been confusing with the game. |

I understand them cutting out the cricket game form the pre-credits sequence but I think all of the other deleted scenes would have easily worked within the film. |

| Wow, that bonus disc is useless. It's nothing but two-minute music videos. I knew the Bond interview would be a patchwork, but jesus... It does have all 22 title sequences in one, hour-long video. That is cool. Everything else on that disc is junk. |

| Fantastic news, my DR. NO Blu-ray, which I tried to watch just now, is defective. It freezes up around the tarantula scene. In both of my players.
This is just such great news! Now I get to go to Best Buy and exchange the entire set, and be paranoid that it will happen again, or that other discs may be defective. And it'll ruin my enjoyment of the movies because I'll be expecting them to freeze at any moment. I couldn't have asked for anything better to happen after I shelled out 150 bucks. |

Nice that it's all going well, and for tonight it's even more special. I wanted to start my run on this date, but I got too eager when I got my hands on the set. :face: |

See my earlier messages for the pictures of the combopacks https://bondandbeyond.forumotion.com/t1132p125-bond-50-blu-ray-box-set-2012 , now other pictures be confirmd. If you don't like the art work from the previous DVD and BD release of QOS you can now choose for another artwork, but keep in mind it is stil the same disc there yuse. Also some other movies going to be re-released on BD and 2 disc DVD and some others for the first time on single BD on 12 December 2012. I expect the 2 disc dvd should be a re-release of the 2 disc UE dvd and the BD wil take over all those extra's from those UE like there also doing in that 50 years boxset. Not every movie be released on single BD yet like Dr No who get a re-release on DVD but not on BD, whyle FRWL get both. Example Die Another Day: BD 8712626051107 2 disc DVD 8712626039990 Intresting if you like me only have the SE of Goldeneye and be the only movie iam consider to buy on BD and then it be the 3th time after the VHS and SE dvd. | For anyone who's interested, the previous UK Bond Blu Ray box sets are going pretty cheap now that the Bond 50 set has been released. Six films (DN, FRWL, TB, FYEO, LALD & DAD) in a Blu Ray box set (the box nicely hiding the ghastly cover art of the individual sleeves), the sets going for between ten and twenty quid on e-Bay. Good value for money, I paid less than £15 for mine, just waiting for it to arrive, but there's four of my top six Bond films in that lot (including all of the Connery that's really worth bothering with), so to be honest the only other things I could really want from this set are TLD and OHMSS (though in the case of the latter, I'm probably still best avoiding it due to the audio f*ckery which I assume still stands uncorrected on the UK discs).
Python? How bad are these Blu's for burnt-in subtitles etc? Are we still stuck with ugly player-imposed location fonts (for example "Tangier" and "What kind of girl do you think I am?" in TLD, "A terrorist arms bazaar on a Pinewood soundstage" in TND, "Colonel Dim Sun Moon's Korean Car Lot" in DAD, etc)...? Any chance you can recall which films have the subtitles etc burnt-in and which don't? Cheers.

You should be in luck. I checked all the discs and DN through LTK all have the original sound mixes available as an option. OHMSS also got a new transfer so all of that filter has been done away with for blu. The set released in the UK should be the same. - Quote :

The burnt-in subtitles are all on the blu-rays I saw. Keep in mind I'm from North America, I dunno if the blu-rays released in Europe have the same deal. I know the R2 DVDs had player-generated subtitles for all the different languages, while all the R1 DVDs had the burnt-in subtitles. |

| The burnt in theatrical subs were reinstated for the R1 UE and should all be on the BDs. There have been reports of the OHMSS mono track being muffled for extended periods. My question is: are the original tracks still pitiful lossy Dolby 2.0? They are always rather harsh and tinny sounding to me against LD. And they have built in compression so in addition to losing vital information, you find yourself having to constantly adjust volume to avoid loudness. With the PCM you can crank it 'till your ears bleed. Do GE and TND still sound the same as the UE? Both were remixed slightly and compressed so that they were greatly weakened against their theatrical original versions. GE lost it's huge bass/LFE and TND was overly compressed so that it became far louder and less detailed. - The White Tuxedo wrote:
- I now have two obsolete sets of Bond DVDs. I kept the original for sentemental value (I still remember eagerly coming home from school to find packages on my porch) but I may get rid of them.
If either of these are the blue/gold/silver SE boxes I'd be interested. Since I'm not fully HD ready yet I'd like to piece together an SE set instead of the four or so I have. |

| I'm not a sound guy, but the recent viewing I had of OHMSS with the mono track sounded pretty fine to me, but then again I don't have LD so I can't make a comparison.
Also, I should note that unlike the earlier blu-ray releases (DN-TB, LALD-TMWTGG)), YOLT, OHMSS, and DAF had the mono tracks at 1.0 sound channel instead of 2.0. I don't know if that's good or bad, it's just something I noticed on the specs because some of the Criterion blus that have mono tracks are at 1.0.
As for GE, it sounded like the same DTS from the UE DVDs instead of the old DTS. I also noticed that the titles were restored to their theatrical setting, while the UE DVD had the titles formatted for pan-and-scan crammed up to the center instead of spread out properly. |

| Die Another Day DD 5.1 Ex track and the DD 5.1 on the Ultimate Editions are louder then the DTS track. I understand this from reviews. For the first BD release of Die Another Day there yusing HDMA 5.1 track and the same menu/extra's as 2 disc UE dvd and there at 4 bonus audio tracks in DTS. But everbdoy who whant this 2 disc UE DVD or single BD or/and be happy with this BD is not Bond fan but fan of the movie, the 2 disc SE dvd is much better. - Quote :

The Goldeneye SE don't have DTS track but DD 5.1 (none SE of TMND and GE also don't have a DTS track.). Goldeneye get his first BD release in the 50 set and wil get a single release in December as written earlier. From the anouchment of this boxset i expect a copy from UE on those BD and litle update audio track > Read like DAD BD. For me not yusing the 2 disc CE of CR is already enough for me not having intrest in this boxset and then isn't needed to talk about other reasens that can have been another reasen for not buying this set. |

| Yeah, the HDTV airing capture is unquestionably better in comparison even with the cropping. There's lots of grain intact. I had forgotten, they did lose those original matrixed Dolby Ex and DTS-ES mixes for TWINE and DAD. Hmph. The old GE DTS was on Laser and theatrical, but I haven't heard it yet. It's supposed to be the best of all. - Python wrote:

I'm just relating what some have said. As far as an LD comparison it's essentially like comparing an mp3 to a CD but on film soundtracks nowadays they compress at low bitrates and do massive EQ to ensure that it sound decent on the crappiest of equipment. - Python wrote:

Yeah, they're the same. 1.0 simply is one channel mono which will automatically default to the center channel in a sound setup faithfully recreating the single channel screen positioned speaker. 2.0 dual mono when the stereo speakers are setup at equal distance will give the impression of a single channel. |

| So, to sum up the Bond BD issues/comments:
-GE has heavy DNR -The Bonds new to BD retain the UE 5.1 mixing, including added sound effects. -All the pre-Brosnan films have theatrical audio (Mono from DN-TMWTGG, Stereo Surround for TSWLM-LTK) All theatrical audio is Dolby Digital compressed (?) -Some of the UE flaws have been fixed (GE's cropping, OHMSS's blue filter), some haven't? (AVTAK cropping) -Some people are getting duplicate discs/scratched discs from stores and online retailers.
Feel free to correct me or add additional issues. I'm debating between holding out for the rest of the Bonds to get the same treatment as the original BD's or just diving in knowing that MGM/Sony/Fox has a vice grip on my wallet anyways. |

| I received my Blu-ray box set a couple of weeks ago but only got round to taking a look at it yesterday. Watched ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE. Naturally, I'd never seen it looking so good - indeed, it was like watching it for the first time. Made me wish I had a larger TV, though. The "epic" Bonds of 1965-69 really do require as big a screen as possible. |
