Bond shouldn't be a heritage park.
The irony, since Bond is older than all of these artists.
Sure, but not Craig's Bond and that's what matters. Bond should capture the zeitgeist of the moment.

Some of the names I've seen kicked around (Lan Del Rey?) are, it appears, too new to the scene to be given the privilege of doing a Bond theme song.
There's two big acts out there right now that have shown they can handle the demands of doing a Bond song: MUSE and ONE REPUBLIC. Either one of these acts would be fine by me.
The 3:29 mark tells you everything you need to know about MUSE and this song in particular:
When I first heard Survival I wasn't sure I liked it, but a couple more tries and it turned into my favorite song of all time. Great for blasting in your car stereo or in your Ipod at the gym.
This next song by One Republic has got to be incredibly difficult to keep time with. The beat seems to change back and forth, but it is pounding, and relentless. One of their best pieces of work!
Either them or go with Christy Lane:
What Christy brings to the series is the coveted 60 - 80 year old Christian, widow/widower, pensioner demographic. They have lots of disposable income and have nothing else to do on a Sunday afternoon. They are an underserved, untapped market. She could bring a lot of senior citizens and people of faith to the series. Of course, if Christy was going to do the movie, EON would need to cut the sex scenes, any profanity, no nudity, and keep the violence in the move to a bare minimum (unless the villains are Muslims, in which case, they need to be portrayed as accurately as possible)

Another reason I hope Arnold doesn't return, or at least doesn't contribute to the title song. I find that he puts too much emphasis on blaring horns, as if he wants to maintain "the Bond sound" even if it's fucking inappropriate. The Arnold-less version of "You Know My Name" is so much better and should have been what was on the main credits.
When I watched CR just recently I thought how much I loved the blaring horns. That "Bond sound" is what I love about Arnold's music.

It only emphasizes how much I miss John Barry, and how Arnold always misses the mark.

Nicki Minaj should feature in the title sequence but not sing.

Thankless task to follow the one that won the Oscar, whatever its merits.
Anything too similar will be criticised for trying to be exactly that.
Therefore probably/hopefully a band with male vocalist.
Or Gary Glitter.

This might sound like an odd suggestion, but I reckon Nick Cave could do an interesting job. His song "Red Right Hand" has been used for an ad campaign for South Australia, and while a song about trying to back out of a deal with the devil is a poor one for the subject matter, it's got that moody quality that I think would fit Bond.

I like Cave, but Eon wants megaunitshifting 'artistes' like 1D.

Don't want to be cruel, but it doesn't matter - Prince, Depeche, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton, their time has passed at least as far as 007 is concerned. Bond shouldn't be a heritage park.
You're right.
Clapton's an ace guitarist, but I don't think his voice was ever impressive to begin with. Still, he's one of my favorite artists. My parents were lucky enough to see him in concert in his heyday.
The Kamen/Clapton theme for EDGE OF DARKNESS, or something similar to it, should have made its way into a Bond film, though. Instead, we got that trash from Gladys Knight. Didn't that song consist of her repeating "I got a licence to kill" for 3 minutes on top of back-up vocals?
I haven't got a clue who EON will pull on board for Bond 24. However, I do know that there's about a 90% chance I won't like who it is.

I was toying with the idea of the Madden Brothers after really digging 'We Are Done', but I heard another song on that album and wasn't too impressed with that one…
I looked up their video based on your recommendation. Ummmm, no thanks. Not that they're bad, but it's just that I hear nothing from them that makes me think they can pull off a Bond song. The title/theme song to a 007 film should be epic; just about everyone that has ever been picked for a 007 song has previously demonstrated that they have the vocals to make the ambition, or that their style would work with Bond. I think we get into murky waters when we pick singers with less range, like Sheryl Crow or Chris Cornell. The Madden Brothers don't have "it".
Conversely, not only are songs by MUSE and ONE REPUBLIC "big", but the lead singers have great range. There are a couple of songs from MUSE that could have been turned into theme songs, and ONE REPUBLIC's LOVE RUNS OUT bodes well for them. Both groups have a large body of work and are not overnight-sensations, they're not flash-in-the-pans, and they're not flavors-of-the-month.
I'd add HOZIER to the list of possibilities. Great voice, though when I first heard the song thought it was Elton John. He may be too new to the scene, and he really hasn't earned the privilege yet, but EON could do worse:

Can you imagine Bond with the blues instead of teenpap? What an amazingly sweet and sexy adult film that'd be. Never gonna happen.

Of all contenders to date I'm liking Rihanna the most. When she sang this chorus around the time this song was released, I thought of her as Bond material.

She's too toxic. She went back to a man who beat her. She got dropped by CBS after the Ray Rice scandal engulfed the NFL and put fresh light on domestic violence. She was no longer a victim, but an enabler. EON doesn't need that kind of baggage when there are plenty of other equally talented musical acts to choose from.

dare suggest it might have been ideal for a mid-70s Lazenby Bond. In another world.

More "news" re: the singer… Sam Smith apparently has been selected, with Lana Del Rae disappointed that she missed out, though it hasn't been confirmed.
FKA Twigs is another one… Apparently meeting with Mendes.
Adele also apparently seems to be the frontrunner.

Even this time last year in 2011 Adele was more than a rumour. Everyone knew she was going to sing it, it was just a matter of waiting for a confirmation.

In a way, going with Sam Smith makes some sense. Adele was such a megastar that it was always going to very difficult to find anyone who's as both successful and fit for Bond. Instead of trying to top Adele, they'll go the opposite route by picking an up and coming British singer who's only just started but already had a strong debut in the charts. Synthpop band a-ha being chosen back in 1987 was clearly an attempt to recapture the success of Duran Duran's "A View to a Kill" and it never quite reached it. Maybe they want to avoid that.

Maybe… Though given Adele earning them an Oscar and all that, capitalising on something that's already worked for them might compel them to go with someone like Lana Del Rae. All speculation though. I just don't think Sam Smith is ballsy enough for Bond.
On a side note, is it worth mentioning that some of the best Bond title tracks have the Bond theme interwoven? For example FRWL, GF, GE, SF… I really like when the Bond theme kicks in. Is this something others want to continue hearing?

Not me. None of my favourite Bond themes have it (WEATTITW, DAF, TSWLM, MR, AVTAK, TLD, ITWAM, LTK, Surrender etc.). It too often becomes a crutch, like in SKYFALL, in place of original chords.

Going with Lana Del Rey would be a likely move to go for after Adele, but I can understand that whatever she puts out will be compared to "Skyfall" with great scrutiny so they'll want to avoid that and go for something different.
