But I hope we get a scene of Bond in M's office. It's only been 13 years since that happened. And people complain that TND was too 'by the numbers'. ;) And I know you were referring to TWINE, but still. |

No way does Jerry use his 15 minutes of access to Daniel Craig to question him about Istanbul. The question is transparently being suggested by someone with the studio.
But if the questions are staged, shouldn't Craig's responses also be in a prepared transcript, so he wouldn't risk coming of as a dork when responding to questions? I've seen this on radio programs when campaigning politicians were on air..,both interviewer and respondent would be reading from a script produced by a hired PR rep, everything was staged right down to the live broadcast phone-calls. Yeah, I worked in a radio station (not on air, I was in the accounts dept but got to hang out in the studio a lot and get Duran Duran on air). |

| Finally saw the video. Looks good. I've always been a fan of Gassner's from the Coen films to ROAD TO PERDITION, and I hope they keep him on as the regular production designer. |

Agreed. I loved the sets in QOS and Road to Perdition. |

Given Peter Lamont's retirement after CR (hey, not a bad way to end a career) it seems like EON has found their regular PD in Gassner. I like that he's joined the EON family. |

| Yup - I'd like a team of crew members who work consistently for the next few films, like in the 80s, and to an extent, Young, Gilbert and Hamilton's crews. Wasn't Gassner Foster's choice? |

| This underground MI6 office does look intriguing. I'm guessing it's their post-attack HQ. And of course we know that the real Vauxhall Cross HQ will be making its return too.
And the scene of Mallory entering M's office with Craig there - I wonder if that will be the interrogation scene? |

Don't think so. Apparently Bond and the interrogator are behind a glass wall, while Mallory and M watch on. |

| Minor controversy over at CBn that I thought warranted a mention here - it seems that pages of the script were leaked online, posted on eBay for sale. There are no links, because everything has been taken down, but it seems someone managed to slip soemthing past EON.
Bet they're not happy about it, either. |

Bet they're not happy about it, either. If the eBay leak was true, it could be reported to eBay and the seller could get in serious trouble. If porn models could report unauthorised cd-r sales of their photos, surely EON could present a case too. |

Well, I caught it several days after it happened, but I noticed Jim wasn't his usual snarky self, so something serious was clearly happening. I managed to piece it together from there. |

| Interview with Gary Powell. http://www.rte.ie/radio/radioplayer/rteradioweb.html#!rii=9%3A3279205%3A10713%3A07-05-2012%3A Here it is transcribed for Luigi Ferrara: - Quote :
- Stewart Kelly: We're now going live to the set of the new James Bond film, SKYFALL, which is being filmed in Istanbul and coming out in October, to the man who makes James Bond look so good, whether he's running, jumping, diving, driving, flying - it's Gary Powell.
Oria Kelly: Hi Gary.
Gary Powell: Hi, how are you going?
Oria Kelly: Oria here. Can you just describe to us what the atmosphere is like on the SKYFALL set out on Istanbul at the moment?
Gary Powell: Yeah, there's a motorbike chase that sort of starts in the marketplace, and then we sort of go to some rooftops, and an end up going through a bazaar. So, it's a little bit different than the normal stuff.
Oria Kelly: That would be brilliant, because the bazaar in Istanbul there there is amazingly narrow, enclosed and historic. How did leave you just trash around in it in motorbikes?
Gary Powell: Haha um, I'm sure there's a lot of conversations going about letting us go in there. We're only allowed in there on Sundays, because is the only day it's closed. So it's yeah it's been great. Obviously we know the place, and is very tight, but we've like a 3-400 crowd in there and bikes flying through the middle of them, so it's pretty good stuff.
Stewart Kelly: So you can tell us, who is the best Bond driver?
Gary Powell: Obviously I've got a lot of experience with Daniel, and I have to he's very good. Funnily enough, we've done a lot of testing down at the actual TOP GEAR track, and he goes round there at a good pace. Literally on the last film, QUANTUM OF SOLACE, we had 7 brand spanking new Aston Martin DB7s at the start of the film. By the end of it, we'd totaled the lot of them.
Stewart Kelly: That came to a bill for Aston Martin of what, about 1 and a half million?
Gary Powell: Probably very close to that, and it was actually nice doing it and get a pat on the back for doing it, as well.
Stewart Kelly: And in SKYFALL, the Aston Martin DB5 is back.
Gary Powell: It is, very much.
Stewart Kelly: And, are you going to be doing stunts with it?
Gary Powell: We've got a sort of piece at the end where that plays into it. Most of the time you see it doing normal driving, bu at the end it does come and play a little bit more.
Oria Kelly: Have you got any insight, we've been speculating about what car Bond, or Daniel Craig will be driving in SKYFALL?
Gary Powell: That I'm not allowed to say.
Oria Kelly: Does it ever really upset you having these amazing performance, expensive luxury cars, and you're just trashing so many of them in the film. Does that ever impinge of your conscience?
Gary Powell: Not one little bit.
*Stewart and Oria Kelly laugh*
Oria Kelly: Maybe that's because you're not paying the bill at the end for them, Gary.
Gary Powell: No, exactly. Totally. If they said you can have one, then that would be a totally different sort scenario I should imagine. But when they're given to us basically as props, it's a lovely feeling when you smash up like a £150, 000 car, and it's a good should done well sort of thing
Stewart Kelly: Ok, brilliant. Gary, thank you very much. |

A: I'm not sure we really have much backstory... More bricks in the wall of confidence for this film. Fascinating interview. I think Mendes really has a genuine passion for Bond and for this film. This isn't an easy gig for him, an extremely well-paid bit of hackwork. He's taking it as seriously as he would one of his "own" films. Heck, this is one of his own films. (Y'all get what I mean, I trust.) If I had any worries about SKYFALL (which I didn't, really), then this interview has put them to rest. Interesting that Mendes mentions THE DARK KNIGHT, for I've long suspected that TDK would influence SKYFALL in terms of the characterisation of its male leads. I suspect that Bardem's character will recall Ledger's Joker in terms of flamboyance and charisma (maybe not quite as flamboyant, of course, but in the same ballpark). I hope that Mendes becomes the Paul Greengrass of the Bond series (without the shaky cam, of course) and sticks around for at least one more. |

I think the most telling endorsement of Mendes was from Chris Corbould. He said that because Mendes' background is in theatre, where the production design is very limited, Mendes was very clear and concise about what he wanted from Corbould and the production designers. The end result was that Corbould and his team could turn over things much faster than in previous films, giving them more time to focus on the details, making for an overall better-quality design. Given that this is his tenth Bond film and that he has worked with the likes of Christopher Nolan, I'd say Chris Corbould is definately not an easy guy to impress. |

Of course, Mendes is as much of a theatre director as he is a film director - maybe even more so (I think he's directed more plays than he's directed films and still seems to be very active in the theatre). I guess this puts him in a very unique position as far as Bond directors go - did any of the other Bond directors have any theatrical background to speak of? I think SKYFALL will rule. |
