1 Safe House $23,641,575 $77,911,190 2 The Vow $23,065,077 $84,991,914 3 Ghost Rider $22,115,334 $22,115,334 4 Journey 2 $19,845,282 5 This Means $17,405,930 $19,015,735 6 Star Wars $7,966,431 $33,839,666
Given a choice between a Channing Tatum/Rachel McAdams tearjerker, and a rom-com/action flick starring Reese Witherspoon/Chris Pine/Tom Hardy....audiences chose THE VOW. It made more in its second weekend than THIS MEANS WAR did in its first week. Reese Witherspoon can't open a grocery store; why does she keep getting these ridiculous paychecks?
Ghost Rider shows Nic Cage should be doing supporting work, not starring in the lead.
And $33 million dollars for THE FANTURD MENACE is awful, I don't care how you try and spin it. People didn't want to see that shiz all over again, especially in 3-D. But don't waste your time telling Jorge Lucas that. |

It's probably just a phase. She needs the Ann Summers Phase Shifter. |

| Both Journey 2 and TPM are proving me very wrong. If I were George, I'd be seriously concerned about how well AOTC and ROTS will do as re-releases.
It's good that cinema is doing well in the cold days of winter. We're on track to having the best February in 10 years. |

| Ghost Rider 2 is a bit of a bummer...but the trailer looked like shit.
Disappointing, since I'm a fan of the original Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider series which lasted from 1973-1981. Have all 81 of those comics...not a big fan of the 90s series with Danny Ketch. |

| I think people were genuinely excited to see TDK, beyond Ledger dying. And I have little doubt TDKR will at least approach 1 billion, if not exceed it.
It's gonna make a shitload of money regardless. |

It's gonna make a shitload of money regardless. I think that the death of Heath was milked for all its worth and made more people going to see the movie than normally would. And to be honest TDK was quite a bleak and dark movie, I am not sure if folks need that in times of crisis. Which would a partial explenation for the brilliant BO of the Avengers. |

| Ledger's Joker was already getting plenty of hype before his death. I remember when the first trailer showcased his take there was a lot of excitement and even those who were not pleased of his casting were quickly impressed by what they saw. |

Agreed 100%. It's not as if I suddenly got interested in seeing the film because he died. I wanted to see his interpretation of the character full stop. |

I am not talking about you or any Batman affinado but the folks that got draw in to cinema largly on the Ledger drama. It was very much used as a marketing tool. They are going to need somethiong similar will TDKR do similar a BO since last time. |

They already have it somewhat...TDKR is described as Nolan's great end to the trilogy. I was of the view that neither Catwoman nor Bane is as popular as Joker, but a lot of those who went to see Dark Knight will be back to see the conclusion. I think it will be the #2 movie of the year behind Avengers. But I also think the Top 5 this year will be superior box-office wise to last year....and that's a great sign for Hollywood. |

The Hobbit is not going to be as successful as LOTR and Twilight won't get up to $500m....Avengers is a given and TDKR has a shot at it. |

| To put these numbers in perspective, if Avengers tracks like a think it will and basically be Iron Man on roids, it's final total will be $670 million in the US and Canada. |

| Breaking Dawn pt 1 did 705 million worldwide
And The Hobbit not doing well would be wishfull thinking on your part. It will however divde its BO between 2012/2013 so in that aspect you will probably right. But I'll expect it to do better than Batman 3. |

I didn't say the Hobbit wouldn't do well...I said it wouldn't do as well as LOTR. I give TDKR the edge after all box-office receipts for both movies are in. |

We shall see I think that TDKR will do less than TDK. |

| The Hobbit is getting some bad PR over the 48 fps thing. I don't think that alone will keep it from making a ton of money, but I don't see it surpassing either The Avengers or TDKR. |

I think they are all noisy, over-rated, over-hyped, pos and TDKR will be just more of the same crap.
Nolan sold his soul out to Hollywood for big money! |

Nolan sold his soul out to Hollywood for big money! Disagree with you here...Nolan's Batman films are fucking awesome in my book and Heath Ledger's Joker was the best I've ever seen. |
