I suppose so, but I don't particularly care for that spoon-feeding narration. SF's trailer doesn't beat one over the head with Bond, but it at least holds something in reserve and leaves a bit to the imagination. I prefer SF's trailer. But it's the film that counts.

I remember going to see Alien Resurrection in late November '97, TND was due to open mid-December. I was very disappointed that its trailer wasn't amongst the ones shown, but the one for fucking Spiceworld : The Movie was.

Retrokitty had a marvelous thread on classic MI6 called "Parts of Fleming that Tickle You," or suchlike. Alas, it was a casualty of Zorin Page's Night of the Long Knives.

I recall the MI6 thread, something from MR I highlighted about Bond having these married women's numbers (more or less) and Lala remarking Bond and booty calls.

When I do my next Flemingathon--and that may be a while--I'll post the choicest Fleming. Problem is, you could easily wind up typing out the novels verbatim in their entirety if you're not careful.

that is one problem with it indeed. I've more or less rewritten Bond books already in my lifetime.

Any chance we can take Herr Page to the Hague on charges of forumcide?

There's plenty of humour in the Fleming novels.
Yes, but I wouldn't say more than in CR (the film) which is why I hope SF is atleast on par with this film in terms of the comedy..
The problem I have with CR is the kind of humour that's there. Especially like the stuff in the risible "aren't I clever?" train and taxi scenes. It plays like someone who never lived through the 50s/60s attempt at aping those screwball comic thrillers of the time. There's never anything like that in Fleming's books, nor any of the dry, humourless one liners in QOS. If you read through them, you'll find it's more in the absurd situations, social satire, and eccentric characters Bond encounters. In that sense, they've got a lot more in common with the later Tom Mankiewicz screenplays than most would like to admit.
I've never been happy with a proportion of the style of humour in CR. That dialogue on the train and in the taxi for example, just doesn't sound natural to me at all. This is a downside of the film. I'm merely referring to the level of humour in CR though. I hope SF doesn't have any more than what is in this film. The SF trailer is only 1 minute and something in length. The film itself could be a fair bit more lighthearted than what we've been lead to believe. I'd love it if the film was relatively dark throughout though.
The one liners in QOS are poor and shouldn't even be there. I'm referring to some of the more natural humour like the dialogue exchanged between Mathis and his mrs at his villa and in the taxi cab in Haiti (I think it is) for example.
"If you read through them, you'll find it's more in the absurd situations, social satire, and eccentric characters Bond encounters."
Absolutely. Humour shouldn't just be blatantly thrown in our face as it largely is in the Bond movies. The satire is my favourite kind of humour in the Bond books. I love it.
I have no trouble with the humour and lightheartedness in the Moore flicks and later Connery outings however as these films are based around comedy.

Just saw the new trailer for TAKEN 2 (i.e. RETAKEN) and it features Liam Neeson hopping from roof-top to roof-top in Istanbul, running down alleys, shooting guns, and some sort of stunt work involving trains. Probably won't affect SKYFALL's box office potential, but it will steal 007's thunder by virtue of it coming out first and also being set extensively in Istanbul.

I'll give it 24 hours before Lazenby wanders in here professing how Taken 2 will be better than Skyfall.

Taken 2?! What, has he found out that he has a second, long lost daughter who also ends up being kidnapped?
Hmmm, shame about the similarities in terms of the action scenes in Istanbul.

No, the basic premise is that the Albanian mob didn't take to kindly to Nesson killing off their Paris operations, and have sworn revenge. They kidnap Nesson and Xenia Onatopp (can't remember her real name) and Nesson has to talk his daughter through evading her would-be kidnappers and locating them to deliver weapons so that they can escape.

It's a lot like the DEATH WISH series.
In every film, Bronson's wife or girlfriend would be raped and/or killed, and he'd have to kill the punks who did it.

I'm wondering what will be bigger...the next trailer...or Bond's stint at the Olympics...either way, the latter is sure to pave the way for some excellent publicity.

Here's Steve Tilley's comical "take" on possibilities for future Taken sequels. I nearly spilled my morning coffee when I read his column
====
"Whether you're a rogue CIA agent, an Albanian kidnapper or man-eating wolf, it is very unwise to p--- off Liam Neeson. Because he will punch you. Or shoot you. Often both.
In 2008's Taken, Neeson's ex-CIA operative Bryan Mills uses his "very particular set of skills" to hunt down the Albanian Mafia thugs who have kidnapped his daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) in Paris. By the end, there were more bodies littering the streets than baguettes in a boulangerie.
As we've seen in the new trailer for Taken 2, the father of one of the dead bad guys (Rade Serbedzija) wants revenge and kidnaps Mills' ex-wife Lenore (Famke Janssen) in Istanbul, while also hunting for Kim. Clearly, Mills' particular set of skills is again being utilized.
So where does the franchise go after this?
We've taken (no pun intended) the liberty of blue-skying the plots for the next three films.
Taken 3
City officials from Paris and Istanbul assemble a mercenary force to kidnap Kim and avenge the millions of dollars in property damage and funeral expenses Mills was responsible for in Taken and Taken 2. Mills kills them all and saves his daughter.
Taken 4
The multinational support group Victims of Bryan Mills kidnaps Kim in attempt to lure Mills into an ambush and eliminate him, thus sparing future generations from his wanton slaughter. Mills kills them all and saves his daughter.
Taken 5
Aliens observing Earth culture note that thousands of people have been killed in the name of protecting one human known as Kim Mills, so they abduct her to learn more. Mills travels to the aliens' homeworld, kills them all and saves his daughter."
