| Gravy is keeping his expectations extremely low so that he walks out of SPECTRE with "better than I thought!". I think he did this for SKYFALL, or was that Lazenby.? |

For a franchise that's into its 24th film, how do you come up with something that's refreshing and original anymore? |

Anyway, added a poll. I voted 'okay' There's nothing Bond like in it so far if you weren't already familiar with the characters. Guess they're saving that for the main trailer. Best moment was the Mr. White bit...I was wondering if he's blind? |

| I voted "okay" too. Nothing in there that really turned me off, but it wasn't the kind of trailer that gets the blood pumping either.
It actually gave off a vibe that I would liken to "The American" and Fincher's Millennium adaptation. |

| It is only a teaser so it's there merely to tease us that are in anticipation, nothing more than that. |

Haven't you read any of his posts lately? He's been predicting the death of the franchise since December and the start of filming. |

I recall Gravity getting annoyed by the idea of a black Moneypenny. |

I highly doubt Mendes would have tackled this project without a solid story. Every director thinks he's got a solid story. Or maybe Mendes signed up early on, the script then went tits up on him, but he felt obligated to stick around and finish what he started with Barbara so as not to make her look bad by dropping out. EVERYONE is going to say what a great job they did on this film; it's "classic" Bond. It harkens back to the Connery years and FRWL...blah blah blah. Heard it all before. Been there, done that. But to your questions.....what I saw in the teaser is quite literally what I saw in the hacked SONY emails that got leaked onto the Internet. Despite the public relations arm of the studio swearing that changes had been made to the script, it's quite clear that the train had already left the station long ago where the script was concerned, and therefore everyone involved was committed to trying to make what they had work because it was too late to turn back. The scene where Bond is looking at an old photograph of him and his father(?) and someone's head is strategically burned out is not only straight out of the draft Logan turned in, but it is the absolute basis for the "plot" that drives the film. Upon this the whole film hangs, and audiences are either going to hate this plot "twist" or going to be "meh" about it, but no one is going to love it. It seems so ridiculous that it feels like it belongs in an Austin Powers movie. I'm looking forward to hating this quasi-remake of OHMSS even more than I already do. Can't wait to see it on opening day. But as far as the trailer goes, it's certainly different. It does a good job of setting up anticipation of what the film might be like or about; the problem is most people aren't going to like what this film is about. What could have been Craig's Thunderball, DAD or Moonraker will just end up alienating a lot of fans and contributing to overall lower box office instead of being the biggest box office moneymaker for a sitting actor in the series. Remember, I'm the one who correctly predicted the box office for SKYFALL in weeks before its release, with no one else on this board believing it would make $300 million U.S. and over a billion worldwide. My prediction for SPECTURD is that it will make significantly less than SKYFALL, forcing EON to try to make amends with a traditional BOND 25, but it will be too late to save the Craig series and he'll be done. What we're being offered in this film is nothing that anyone is asking for, and after 4 Craig films core and non-core fans will be like: 'Four films into this tenure and we still don't have a proper Bond film and no character progression?' And yeah, I think Lazenby lowered his expectations for the film so as to not be disappointed, and I probably did a bit as well, but this time it won't work because everyone from the top of the studio down is in agreement: this script has major problems that weren't worked out in time. Now, you're left with what you've got. It is what it is. |

| Ultimately, I think it's best to wait for the execution for this film rather than condemn it based on leaked stuff. When building up to Bond 23, I was hoping they would go for a traditional Bond film with no personal stakes, it would just be Bond on a mission. That didn't happen, and what I heard about the leaked stuff on that film scared me. However, a lot of the stuff I was dreading ended up actually being so well done that I was able to roll with it.
If Mendes can keep up that kind of quality with something controversial, I'm up for it. Also when you realize it, there hasn't been a traditional Bond film since TOMORROW NEVER DIES, and the last time before that was A VIEW TO A KILL. I think we'll just have to get used to the idea that EON since Dalton's tenure has been wanting to shake up the series rather than repeat the same formula that they played up until the 80s. If there's ever going to be another traditional Bond film in the vein of a Connery or Moore film, it's not going to happen with Craig. Maybe the next actor, we won't know until then. |

How would you consider 'significantly less'? I'm thinking it's already in the $250m+ club. $300m is a tall order of course, but I'm predicting an opening weekend north of $90m in the USA. In the UK, it IS going to challenge SKYFALL as the #1 UK film of all time. |

Lazenby's analysis of the SKYFALL trailer was hilarious: - Quote :
- ... Yep, it's the kind of thing that would turn up in some half-assed fanfiction. Villain taunts M on YouTube. Way to go to have the law kicking down your door straight away. Why not just have Silva go on Facebook and click "like" on Bin Laden, Al Quaida, then post his status as "about to blow up half the world" while he's at it. Shame he couldn't have taken over MI6 Community while he was surfing.
If CASINOROYALE had a villain using YouTube to taunt M, everyone would have laughed their f*cking arses off at it and slated the poor kid. FACT. |

Yeah this… Though I'd say TWINE and TND are the two last traditional Bond films and probably one of the reasons why I regard them so highly. I, too, voted good. |

| As did I - it was more low-key than I was expecting (some of the action stuff probably would have had me going for 'Fantastic', but I don't doubt it'll be in the 'main' trailer) but I'm intrigued nonetheless.
I could get my panties in a bunch about how the Bond films aren't exactly how they were 50, 40 or 30 years ago, but frankly ... what would be the fucking point? I have faith in these people; Skyfall was a superbly written, shot and acted franchise entry, easily the best since Goldeneye and one of the very best Bonds overall to boot. |

You have to go to other websites and look in their talk-back forums to get a sense of how the broader film fan is viewing SPECTRE because ultimately it's those people that EON are truly going after, not the people here at B&B, whose loyalty (i.e. paid admissions) are already assumed. Reading what others have wrote, it's clear a lot of them were pleased with the trailer, but very cautious about the implied plot revelations. Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig may very well end up turning chicken-s**t into chicken-salad, but it's a very tall order at this point so late in the game, and it is quite clear from the trailer that the very basic bones and structure of the Logan draft is being used, so if you know what's in the Logan draft then you know what you're up against as a viewer. |

I think it's a good sign that no one has voted anything below 'okay' for the trailer… Even though it is just a trailer. |

Wouldn't compare it to a Bond film. That's kind of the problem. There's no precedent for this because every writer and director that has ever come before Mendes, I assume, had the good sense to know to stay away from this kind of stuff. The movie may be trying to have an EMPIRE STRIKES BACK moment, but runs a very real risk of coming off as something that belongs in SOAPDISH or AUSTIN POWERS. |
