In good faith? Come on. These so-called EU citizens come to better themselves not to serve the UK.

Most aren't brain surgeons or other high-achieving people, but labourers, gardeners, fruit pickers, au pairs and servants who systematically undercut the wages of the working-class citizens of Britain, the very people the UK government should serve. Many draw on the benefits system without contributing then send the money back home to the former Soviet states adding nothing to the UK economy. All this makes Britain's welfare state unsustainable even though poor saps like me pay 40% tax (plus 20% on everything we buy) in order to sustain it. Time to give the jobs back to the UK citizens. It's not Britain's fault that the EU has so catastrophically failed its young population.

As for uncertainty, the only certainty in life is death and taxes.

So the idea is that the fruit pickers will be replaced by British citizens? So why exactly didn't the fruit farmers already use local labor?

In good faith because these people were using their freedom of movement, which was still something the UK had agreed to at that point.

I have a second cousin who will likely be coming home in spite of the fact that she had made a life in Britain. Since we are sharing personal anecdotes now.
Not sure what exactly she did wrong by coming and working in Britain in your estimation, but I'm sure you'll be able to explain it to me.

I believe the reason why more Poles ended up in the UK, beyond the fact that the wages were more attractive, is that the UK failed to implement certain provisions that would have limited the number of immigrants from those countries (which countries such as France, Belgium, ... did do). But I should probably read up more about the underlying details before I state anything definitive on the matter.

Quote :
She did nothing wrong and if she’s needed she’ll be welcome to stay.

I do find this a curious qualifier.
So an immigrant is only welcome for as long as their chosen profession is to the benefit of the host country's immediate needs? Surely there is a point at which this POV becomes cruel. In an ever-changing economy, someone who is needed now might not be needed in 10, 15 or 20 years time. But inevitably, an immigrant who has been at one place for so long will have become a part of their local community, so just uprooting and leaving will not be as easy as you present it. At least not as easy for all of them.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/11/07/welsh-labour-politician-carl-sargeant-found-dead-sacked-last/

One of the British politicians who found himself accused of inappropriate behavior recently has been found dead. No cause of dead listed yet, but since this comes just days after his suspension, it's difficult not to assume some form of self-harm.

It reminds me of the Steve Stevaert case here. A Socialist party figurehead who was at one time incredibly popular but who ended up taking his own life after a prostitute accused him of rape.

It's also an expression of the Lefts increasingly shameless dabbling in antisemitism.

I my estimation - and I readily agree that I do not follow British politics that closely - Boris Johnson's recent diplomatic gaffe seems more worthy of losing his position.

Out of interest, as I keep hearing this bob up, what is the British Labour Party's problem with The Jews beyond the usual leftist deification of the Arabs?

Ah yes, I now recall the remarks made by Ken Livingstone (?) regarding Hitler, swell chap that he was, being in cahoots with the Zionists to create an Israeli state.

I’m usually more inclined to cock-up than conspiracy theories, but something about the Patel affair does not smell right at all.

The plot's thickened with more meetings being mentioned now. I expect she'll get the chop as she's been called back to No. 10.

Many Brits have used the same freedom of movement to live and work elsewhere in the EU - including, by your own admission, yourself. Should we not have those jobs because they should have gone to local citizens?

Immigrant welfare represents only a very small portion of the UK's total welfare spend, as I'm sure you know and presumably you are just trying to be provocative.

And as has been pointed out, other EU countries capped the ingress of workers from Poland etc., so surely it's not the EU's fault that Britain failed to do the same?
