Bond goes Bionic as the audience goes dyslexic: I need to know that I can't rust you.

Or a very obvious anagram of KREBS which would describe the people making the film.
Agree with TLD being a brilliant title and one of the best. Great to have a title which describes beating the crap out of someone. Up there with LALD, title-wise.
Title for Bond 24? I NEED TO KNOW THAT I CAN TRUST YOU. They'll have no problem working that title into the film.
I promote thuggish cat burglers who find first love at age 40 into vital government assassin positions even though I don't think that I can trust them all the time.

I'm trying to figure out a title that works "tempo" and "tempest" together.

Actually, NEED TO KNOW wouldn't be the worst title they could come up with. And from a marketing standpoint, SKYFALL is easy to say and most audiences in the U.S. and U.K. understand the implicit meaning of the word "sky fall" or "skyfall" even if the film's meaning takes on a different connotation.
Having said that, I think there were plenty of Fleminq-derived titles or words or phrases that they could have pulled from the novels and they chose not to, so I can't say I'm happy with them. And everyone knows my position in regards to the John Gardner novels (I'm in favor of using some of the titles), but since it appears EON will never use the Gardner titles, discussing it is almost a moot point.

If Carte Blache can succeed as a Bond title, then why not Contretemps - the French phrase for difficult times?
And if the story were set in Central America, it could be Contra-Temps.

Continuing the straight-to-video trend of SKYFALL, my money would be on something like BORN TO KILL or LETHAL AVALANCHE.

He did get one thing right, though. The first thing I think of when I hear "James Bond" is an explosion in a caravan park.
I wonder why EON have never thought to include this in a film before.

I know!
And some of his ideas are simply revolutionary, too. I mean, he's got a guy with a serious expression on his face walking away from an explosion and he does not look back or even flinch. This is just ... pure cinematic gold! Why has no James Bond film done this before? More importantly, WHY HAS NO MOVIE EVER DONE THIS!? My mind? Blown.
Truly, CASINOROYALE is a man so far ahead of his time that at this point, he's just running circles around us.

No, I think EON used up all their straight-to-vhs street-cred back in 1988 when they trawled the discount bin at Blockbuster looking for B-film actors and titles they could use for BOND 15.
Look, I'm not gonna take a dump on SKYFALL. As a title it's not bad. It's not the best title, but it's hardly DIE HARD ON A STEALTH SHIP, ABOVE THE ICE, DANGEROUSLY YOURS, HOT ICE, or QUANTUM OF SOLACE.
And I don't think we're ever going to get interesting, provocative titles again. Fleming-esque titles like: THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS, FROM A VIEW TO A KILL, OCTOPUSSY, or even Gardner-esque titles like ICEBREAKER, NOBODY LIVES FOREVER, and BROKENCLAW.
Bond film titles should have a hard edge to them, with verb-oriented phrases such as "break", "shatter" or "claw" i.e. SHATTERHAND.
I know people around here don't want another title with the worlds Live, Die, or Gold anywhere in the name, or any variation thereof, but I wouldn't mind THE DEATH COLLECTOR or DEATH IN THE FACE or PERMISSION TO DIE.
But nothing that reminds people of diarrhea, like BACKSCATTER, or QUANTUM OF SOLACE.

I do like those, but instead of "Death in the Face", I'd suggest "Death in the Eyes".

I knew you would raise Shatterhand and The Death Collector again, Grav.
I don't care for Permission To Die as a title, as Mike Grell's graphic novel came out too soon after Licence To Kill and it will always sound like an attempt to be the same but different (like on The Fall Guy, when Colt worked on "the Bond picture," Always Say Always. I'll personally shoot the first person who says he thinks that's a good title too).
I also wouldn't want to see a tittle culled from song lyrics (Dance Into The Fire, Martinis, Girls and Guns, etc.) or anything as lame as "Shaken, Not Stirred" (which is how every reviewer says the next film will leave you).
Having said that, though, perhaps "Shaken Over Ice" might not be too bad - it might even have made a better title for Die Another Day, wot with its triple meaning.
It's just an idea - go ahead and kill it.

Beyond The Ice was apparently what DAD was once titled ... OK, it refers to the Iceland setting and to the 'conflict diamonds' aspect of the plot, but it's still (IMHO) shit.

I can't find any reliable source that says the film was ever called "Beyond the Ice". It may have been a working title at some point to disguise production of the film, but I think it is far more likely that some idiot with a keyboard and an internet connection was trying to make out that they knew more than they actually did at the IMdB. That's how the rumours that QUANTUM OF SOLACE would be called "Risico Quessi" or "The Emerald Sphere" got started.

And I will continue to raise those titles as suggestions until EON uses them. I mean, they *ARE* Fleming. Shatterhand is a character from YOLT and THE DEATH COLLECTOR is a chapter title, if I recall correctly.
If I was given complete control over the Bond series one of the traditions I'd get back to would be putting the title of the next Bond movie in the closing credits of the current one. That means a bit of work and planning on the part of the writers.
Incidentally, anyone know what the alternative titles were for DIE ANOTHER DAY? After watching the documentary From Script to Screen on the blu-ray of DAD, there is an interview that takes place with Purvis and Wade (back in late 2001 or early 2002) where the interviewer asks them if they've settled on a title and they said they had a title in mind, but that other titles were still being floated around by the director, Barbara, and maybe a few other people. I'd be curious to know what the alternatives were. Please tell me ICEBREAKER was one of the titles.
I came up with DEATH IN THE FACE because it's part of a common expression when people say "I looked death in the face and lived to tell about it'. Just a suggestion.
