| UPDATE...Skyfall has officially reached one billion. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=bond23.htm "Skyfall," the 23rd James Bond adventure, has surpassed $1 billion at the worldwide box office, - Quote :
- Jeff Blake, chairman of worldwide marketing and distribution for Sony Pictures and Gary Barber, MGM's chairman and chief executive, made the announcement Sunday.
The film, from Albert R. Broccoli’s EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment, is the most successful Bond film of all time. It is also the most successful film at the worldwide box office in Sony Pictures history.
"Skyfall," starring Daniel Craig as 007, took in $4.6 million this weekend in North America for a total of $289.6 million. Overseas, the film grossed $10.3 million for an international total to date of $710.6 million and a worldwide total exceeding $1 billion and growing. It has yet to play China, where it will open on Jan. 21.

"It is truly thrilling to reach this incredible milestone. With tremendous gratitude to Barbara and Michael, Sam, Daniel and our partner Sony, and to all of the dedicated distributors and fans across the globe, we are so proud of both Skyfall and our 50 year association with James Bond," said Gary Barber, MGM's Chairman and CEO.
“To see a film connect with audiences is always gratifying but the success of this film is nothing short of extraordinary," Blake said in a statement. "We couldn't be more excited for (producers) Michael Wilson, Barbara Broccoli, (director) Sam Mendes, Daniel Craig, and especially the fans who put James Bond in this very rare and very exclusive billion dollar box office club." Will be #4 movie of 2012 in USA at just over $290m. Who really saw this coming on November 9? :flower: |

| Skyfall is only the 14th film to make the billion dollar club. It's also now #9 all-time internationally with a chance to finish at #6 after China's release ends.
Bond is boss. |

SKYFALL is only the third 2D movie to pass $700 million overseas. SKYFALL has sold more tickets in the US than: -Any X-Men film -Any Lethal Weapon film -Any Clint Eastwood film -Any Star Trek film -Any Bourne film -Any movie with Vin Diesel in a starring role
Now it looks like even THE HOBBIT won't out-gross it, which would make it the first time that Bond has lead the seasonal box office since we've been able to keep track of such things.
Oh, and it will probably pass THUNDERBALL worldwide. An event that was ridiculously implausible 3 months ago. |

Don't forget to add all the cash that TB has been raking in at repeat showings at the Tiff Bond festival. I am personally responsible for shelling out another $48.00, over the last 10 weeks, to the global all-time TB totals. |

I saw all of them when I was a little kid and I wouldn't mind experiencing them again. Designing 007,leaves here Jan 20th, along with the blue snuggers, but I still have time to get in one more GF, DN, DAF, YOLT, LALD and TSWLM, then its back to my entirely inadequate 40" LED and blu-ray, set-up. Designing Bond I'm sure is destined to visit other cities. So far this Bond circus has rolled into London and Toronto. Surely some big USA and other global markets are on the horizon too, along with big-screen showings to go with the exhibit. Tip: the Connery/Laz classics are all being shown in 2k digitally restored pristeen perfect condition. Everything else, post DAF, appears to be original prints in passable condition but not great condition. I wasn't impressed with the LTK print that was shown. The other post DAF screenings were all quite good, but nothing like the restored early films. I didn't bother shelling out money for anything post Dalton. That's just me, eg. I'd rather watch TB 4x on big-screen than GE once. |

At least ol' Rog shows some class every time. I don't really care how Sir Sean feels about those movies or that role nowadays. The movies still hold up quite well and his appraisal of them does not change my own perception. It's not uncommon for people in creative fields to disown the very opportunities that lead to their success. It would be a waste to let this ruin your own personal enjoyment of them. |

| I sympathise with Connery considering he got no back-end deal to his contract, since no one could predict that DR. NO would be a major success. He was still getting paid DR. NO earnings while the producers were making THUNDERBALL earnings.
Be wary of what you hear from the EON hagiography machine. Broccoli was no saint. |

| In the end, the reluctance to make Connery an equal partner ended up working out. If Sean had stayed with the Bond role, he probably would have been so entrenched in it that it would be impossible to recast without a significant overhaul to the series. Instead, we accepted that Bond is a role with a revolving door where actors can be cast and recast as age, popularity, and physical fitness dictate.
It worked out for Sean, too, as he never would have had he post-Highlander renaissance if he continued with Bond. |

| Well, I don't think he needed to be an equal partner. Simply a new contract with a larger share in profit would be enough, like what Craig has had. |

Yes it would be nice if Sean could get a cut of all the money I've been lavishing on his old films, these last 10 weeks or so. Sean is the main reason I pay the money. Broz's re-runs aren't getting a penny out of me. Neither are Craig's. Maybe some day, when these films are older, but even then, not if they are competing with Sean and Rog re-runs. |

So what is the consensus around here? Do we think SF crosses $300 million by the end of next weekend? It does *appear* that SF is a lock for 300+, unless the bottom just completely falls out from underneath the box office. |

Going by how CR performed, the end of next weekend looks like the earliest $300 million will happen. It will happen before January lets out, though. It will be slower going than the holidays simply because less people will be at the cinema on weekdays.
With this weekend's update, SKYFALL passed TDK on the worldwide box office chart, ICE AGE 4 on the international chart, and DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 1 and NEW MOON in the domestic box office chart. SKYFALL has sold more tickets in the US than WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT, THE HANGOVER, and INCEPTION, amongst others.
Going by the ticket price adjuster on Box Office Mojo, SKYFALL has also out-sold YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE. |

So what is the consensus around here? Do we think SF crosses $300 million by the end of next weekend? It does *appear* that SF is a lock for 300+, unless the bottom just completely falls out from underneath the box office. I'll say within the next 7-10 days. Its tail might wag a bit more with Oscar buzz especially if it gets some nominations. |
