| Given the effectiveness of M quoting Tennyson in SKYFALL, then perhaps a title could be derived from Tennyson's Ulysses:
Death Closes All One Equal Temper Weakness of Fate Strive with Gods Honour, His Foil Strength to Move Heavens |

Death Closes All One Equal Temper Weakness of Fate Strive with Gods Honour, His Foil Strength to Move Heavens Death Closes All has some potential, but honestly, it amazes me some of the title suggestions that others make around here, then have the chutzpah to criticize some of the Gardner titles. How is DEATH CLOSES ALL superior to NOBODY LIVES FOREVER? How is HONOUR, HIS FOIL better than NO DEALS, MR BOND? How in any way, shape, or form is WEAKNESS OF FATE (which sounds like one of those Roger Moore-inspired "Find Your Fate" adventure novels from the mid-80's) better than WIN, LOSE, OR DIE? Quite honestly, NOBODY LIVES FOREVER is one of the best titles in the Bond canon, and it's criminal that EON has never chosen to use it, but has opted to go with QUANTUM OF SOLACE (which sounds like a Lindsay Lohan movie starring on Lifetime). |

| Yes Gardner had some very Bond worthy titles. Notably Win Lose or Die, Nobody Lives Forever and Death is Forever,
I also like Scorpius and Icebreaker.
Benson's The Facts of Death and Never Dream of Dying aren't bad either. |

At the same time, they have some rather poor titles. SeaFire and COLD spring to mind from Gardner's range. And Benson had the rather pedestrian Zero Minus Ten and DoubleShot. The Man with the Red Tattoo and The Man from Barbarossa were also rather unimaginitive. So it's kind of fifty-fifty between good titles and bad for both authors. But I do feel that the novels with better titles tend to be of an overall better quality. That said, I haven't read all of them - some are very difficult to find. I still haven't managed to get my hands on Role of Honour, Death Is Forever, No Deals, Mr. Bond and The Facts of Death. |

| 'Man With ... ' type titles make me think of old-school espionage thrillers, the sort of thing where people whisper 'The birds fly south for the winter' type code-phrases to each other. |

That said, I haven't read all of them - some are very difficult to find. I still haven't managed to get my hands on Role of Honour, Death Is Forever, No Deals, Mr. Bond and The Facts of Death. But I'm not suggesting using the poor titles, so the counter-argument is rather moot. I'm talking about using the good titles. It's not as if EON has ever been faithful to any of the novels anyway. What difference to the average consumer would ICEBREAKER or FOR SPECIAL SERVICES make? Do we think they give a rip between a Gardner title and a Fleming title? I'd just rather not have bland titles such as QOS or LTK when there is better material out there. There may be a financial consideration in using a Gardner title, but it's not as if EON or SONY are in the poorhouse. I have a hunch SKYFALL made them some money. Spend the money on a real Bond title and some glamorous locations that aren't faked on the back-lot of Pinewood. |

| I agree that certain Gardner titles would work very well for a Bond film.
That said, I don't think NOBODY LIVES FOREVER is all that terrific. Like some of the weaker Gardner titles, it feels more like the title of a Bond parody than a true-blue Bond title.
But EON, I believe, would have to pay to use the Gardner titles. They'd rather not. And I can't blame them, either. It's not as though the Gardner titles are all that grand. |

| I PERSONALLY WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT CALLED "LICENCE RENEWED" TO SEE IF BOND IS STILL FIT & HEALTHY FOR ACTIVE DUTY & SERVICE,..... EVER SINCE HE WAS SHOT IN SKYFALL, SAW THE DEATH OF HIS FEMALE BOSS "M", DYING RIGHT IN HIS ARMS, & MEETING HIS NEW MALE BOSS "M", & BEING INTRODUCED TO THE "NEW" "Q" & "EVE MONEYPENNY" I THINK BOND'S LICENCE TO KILL, SHOULD BE UP FOR RE-EVALUATION!!! |
